TTC Timeline

This list is crazy detailed…its more for me than you!

  • May 2011 – stopped birth control pill (having been on it for 14 years)
  • August 2011 – started using ovulation predictor sticks, discovering I ovulate around CD16-17 (rather than CD14 as you ‘should’).
  • November 2011 – went to GP ‘to put our minds at rest’ everything was ok. May have accidently exaggerated how long we’d been TTC (added 5 months to say it had been year). GP orders tests.
  • November 2011Sperm analysis shows low motility in DH’s sperm. My FSH etc tests all normal.
  • December 2011 – start taking pre-pregnancy vitamins (only taking folic acid previously), DH taking TTC vitamins for men, improved our diet, exercise and cut down on alcohol.
  • December 2011 – referral letter sent by GP to local fertility specialist (NHS).
  • January 2012 – Receive appointment letter for specialist appointment at the end of May. Call hospital and manage to get it brought forward to beginning of April through sheer begging.
  • January 2012 – started to notice pain in my left ovary during sex and when doing exercise. Very heavy periods and feeling exhausted during period.
  • January 2012 – shared our TTC woes with a couple we’re very close with who had recently had a miscarriage.
  • February 2012 – DH does another SA test, told over phone by a nurse it is ‘better but still a bit borderline’???
  • April 2012 – Had appointment at local hospital.  Very disappointing, no answers just took history and ordered tests. Didn’t get to see the consultant. Were concerned about my pain so ordered tests to investigate possible endometriosis.
  • May 2012 – had internal scan, nothing found, womb ‘normal’.
  • June 2012 – ‘came out’ to our friends.
  • July 2012 – had laparoscopy, mild endometriosis found and removed. Told that the next 6 months were our ‘best chance’ of conceiving and to come back if nothing has happened by then.
  • August 2012 – gave up alcohol completely.
  • September 2012 – went to IVF event/fair at Earls Court. Heard some great speakers.
  • October 2012 – started following diet advice from Emma Cannon’s ‘Baby Making Bible’. Cut out MSG, harsh chemicals and anything else slightly damaging! Eating as organic as possible. Started ovulating on CD14 straight away (for first time ever!)
  • December 2012 – give up giving up booze over Christmas….this may have extended until March!
  • January 2013 – back to the GP to get a referral to IVF clinic. Requested we are referred to Guy’s hospital in London, instead of King’s hospital as is usual for our borough. Told our borough funds 1 fresh IVF cycle and 2 frozen.
  • January 2013 – started acupuncture.
  • February 2013 – joined Twitter! Wish I had done it sooner.
  • February 2013 – first appointment at Guy’s ACU. Saw a consultant! At last! Lots of questions answered!
  • April 2013 – Open evening at Guy’s – first step on IVF path
  • May 2013 – (first week) found out my paper work had got ‘lost in the system’ somewhere and my funding had yet to be agreed. Cue massive bitch-fit at Guy’s admin department.
  • May 2013 – (second week) managed to get first appointment with the consultant who scheduled our cycle there and then! Blood taken for AMH test – told my AMH level is 3.2. Shit. DH’s SA done again and his motility and volume are fine. Morphology a little low.
  • May 2013 – (third week) started down regulation drugs on CD21.
  • June 2013 – my brother calls to say his finance is (very unexpectedly) pregnant. Ouch. (there have obviously been many other announcements during my ttc journey, but this was the hardest).
  • June 2013(4th) scan to check DR drugs working (they were!) started stimms drugs – 300 units of Gonal F.

  • June 2013 (14th) go in for egg collection, 6 eggs collected. Clinic decides to do ICSI to give us best chance.
  • June 2013(15th) got the call to say all 6 eggs fertilised. Yay!
  • June 2013(17th) got the call to say embies still going strong and going for blastocyst.
  • June 2013(19th) embryo transfer day. 1 grade 5AA blastocyst put back in. 3 of the other 5 embies made it and are frozen.

  • November 2013 (7th) – another scan to check lining and its ready! (8.8mm)
  • November 2013 – (12th) – 2 frozen embryos defrost well (95% cell survival rate) and are transfered. One left in freezer.
